Matt has an easy-going, low-key style, never condescending, never making the student feel stupid or silly for asking question or not understanding a concept. He makes difficult concepts accessible to the student, occasionally showing them short-cuts or other methods to work out a type of problem.  He is accessible in other ways too, being flexible about his availability.

Matt tutored our daughter when she took Algebra 1 Honors and this past year with Algebra 2 Honors.  By working with him, she was able to pull her grade up significantly, and got a “pass/advanced” on her SOL exam.  We highly recommend Matt!

When I started Algebra II honors I was aware that it was a hard course, but thought that I could muster through the challenges on my own, since I had done well in previous math classes. When I got a 54 percent on the the first test and a C for the first quarter I knew that this was not the case. I realized that I needed support, and I had heard of Matt Clancy through word of mouth, and decided to give his tutoring a try. It paid off! Matt adjusted to my pace of thinking and gave me enough time to think of how to solve a problem before explaining the answer. His persistence on making sure I understood the math and not just copied the process, completely changed how I thought about functions. The way in which he taught graphing functions, and functions in general, helped me not only boost my grades in Algebra II, but made Pre-Calculus, a graphing and function heavy class, easy and understandable. Building an algebraic foundation with Matt has helped me excel, with relative ease, in higher level math courses

Having Matt as a tutor was very beneficial because he not only helped me learn the material, he motivated me to strive for excellence. Matt really cares about his students and their learning experience. Matt has the ability to take a very dull subject (the SAT in my case) and make the learning experience enjoyable. I would definitely recommend Matt to anyone because of his vast knowledge of the subjects; his ability to make learning the subject fun; and his charismatic approach to teaching, which makes him 10/10.

Brad had an initial meeting with Matt to discuss schools he was interested in and look at the essay requirements. Brad suggested topics and ideas for the different prompts. Matt was great at guiding his ideas and pointing out areas to focus on or not focus on. Matt then met with Brad a couple more times to review the essays and provide feedback. I can’t say enough about Matt. Matt helped Brad focus his ideas and efficiently use the word count. More than anything it was great to have someone who could take us out of the equation.
